Accessibility at the Count Basie Center
The Count Basie Center for the Arts is committed to providing a welcoming and accessible experience for all patrons. We offer a variety of services, including wheelchair access, companion seating, assistive listening devices, ASL interpretation, staff support for guests with disabilities, and more.

If you need additional assistance, have questions about accessibility services, or would like to request a service that is not listed, please contact our Box Office at 732-842-9000 (Tuesday–Saturday, 10AM–6PM) or email [email protected]. For closed captioning, ASL, and audio description services, we recommend making requests at least three weeks in advance of your visit.

Building Access
- Main Entrance: Automatic push-button door at the far-left entrance of the building. Street-level ramp in the Stillwell Larkin Pavillion Lobby and historic lobby
- Lobby & Orchestra Level: Fully wheelchair accessible.
- Elevator: Located at the back of the Grand Lobby for access to the Second-Floor bathrooms and balcony.
Note: The historic loge and balcony levels are not wheelchair accessible.
Accessible Seating
Accessible seating is available in the Orchestra section only:
Right Side: Rows A, Q, DD
Left Side: Rows A, Q, DD
Center: Row J
Rear Platform: Row AA′ (elevated)
Each ADA seat includes space for a companion seat. To reserve accessible seating, please contact the box office.
Restrooms
Restrooms with wheelchair-accessible stalls are located in the grand lobby, just outside the historic Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre lobby, as well as the upstairs lobby near the elevator. A single stall bathroom with an automatic door is also located in the downstairs historic theater lobby near the rear staircase.
Building Access
- Main Entrance: Ushers are present to greet patrons at the Street-level doors
- Lobby & Orchestra Level: Fully Wheelchair Accessible.
- Elevator: Located in the Vogel Lobby next to the inside box office, for access to the Grunin Arts and Education Building, the second floor that leads to the Vogel Balcony, 3rd-floor studios, and the rooftop.
Note: The Vogel Balcony seating is not ADA-compatible due to visual obstruction of the railings and risers.
Accessible Seating
Accessible seating is available on the Floor level only. Designated ADA locations are:
Floor G Seats 9-10
Floor O Seats 1-2
Each ADA seat includes space for a companion seat.
Note: Select Vogel events are standing-room only (GA). Accessible seating near the stage can be arranged by contacting the box office before your visit.
Restrooms
Each restroom in the lower and upper level of the Vogel have wheelchair-accessible stalls.
Assistive Services
- Assistive Listening Devices available upon request. Devices are equipped with over-ear headphones for comfort and clarity.
- ASL Interpretation, Open Captioning, and Audio Description is available for most events with 3 weeks’ notice.
Concessions
Concessions staff are happy to:
- Read menu items aloud
- Provide pricing verbally
- Offer free water on request.
Service Animals
- Service animals are welcome.
- Service animals must remain in the guest’s designated seating area and be leashed or harnessed at all times.
- Please call or email the box office at least a week before the event date so we can prepare for your arrival.
